Shape Functions from B̄ → X c l ν̄ l

We study inclusive semi-leptonic ¯ B → X c ℓ¯ ν ℓ decay using the power counting m c ∼ Λ QCD m b. Assuming this scaling for the charm-quark mass, the decay kinematics can be chosen to access the shape-function region even in b → c transitions. To apply effective field theory methods in this region we extend SCET to describe massive collinear quarks. Working at tree level and including O(Λ QCD /...

Shape characterization with turning functions

The goal of image segmentation is to separate objects from a cluttered background. It is an important step on the identification of shapes contained in the image. A turning function is a 1D shape signature and can be used as a 2D shape representation. We propose a way to identify and modify classes of shapes by operating directly on the turning function space. In this work we present a formal d...

Correlation Functions: Getting into Shape

The ability to measure characteristics of source shapes using nonidentical particle correlations is discussed. Both strong-interaction induced and Coulomb induced correlations are shown to provide sensitivity to source shapes. By decomposing correlation functions with spherical or Cartesian harmonics, details of the shapes can be especially well isolated.

Shape registration using characteristic functions

This study presents a fast algorithm for the registration of shapes implicitly represented by their characteristic functions. The algorithm proposed here aims to recover the registration parameters (scaling, rotation and translation) by minimising a dissimilarity term between the two shapes. The proposed algorithm is based on phase correlation and statistical shape moments to compute the regist...

Shape Optimization of Transfer Functions^

We show how to optimize the shape of the transfer function of a linear time invariant (LTI) single-input-single-output (SISO) system. Since any transfer function is rational, this can be formulated as an optimization problem for the coefficients of polynomials. After characterizing the cone of polynomials which are nonnegative on intervals, we formulate this problem using semidefinite programmi...
